1. The Program "Kangaroo" (work with disable    children)

 During the month, 16 families attended the "Kangaroo"  program. Three families got individual consultations, they  plan  to join our program.

 Every Tuesday several children visit the pool. Some  children are  easily kept on the water, are trained in diving,  swim underwater. All training takes place under the  guidance of a professional  coach and support teachers.

 Continuing collaboration with a speech therapist. To  Maxim,  Katie and David she has almost put all the sounds.  The  challenge now is to constantly  repeat sounds with  parents.

  Conducted individual correctional work with each child.      Every day, parents are given advice on the correction.  Each child  shows visible growth dynamics in the development of mental processes and social development, as well as gross and  fine motor skills. Especially want to mention Zahar, Jessica (increased active vocabulary), Svyatoslav (stopped using diapers),  Maxim (took an active part in group and individual work) and Matthew and Zahar (eat by themselves), Daniel (accustomed to the  regime). Actively works on healthy nutrition.

We have a tradition to celebrate a birthday of every child. This month, we celebrate the birthday of Jan  and Andrew. Children sit in a circle, pass a lighted candle, everyone says congratulations. Children make    a collective birthday gift with their own hands. Children have festive mood,   birthday feels the love and support of other children.

Want to share with all a great joy. We have our own playground  which we       did  by ourselves near our Centre. Now all the children are walking at the     same time. The main thing is that the site is fenced, and it promotes the      safety  of walking and of longer duration. It is very important for the health        of  our children.

This month, organized in the garden planting flowers. Kids love every             day to care for plants: watch the growth, flowering, water, tear the grass.

   2. "Healthy Lifestyle" (work with teens at school on prevention of smoking, drinking,   drug use, on communication, decision making, etc.).

In May ended the small project on "Healthy Generation" in the 4th grade, aimed at uniting the group of children. All children with a great desire and joy participated in all tasks and exercises. From the words of the teacher, the guys in  two months got to know each other more than in the entire year. This knowledge helped the children  better to understand each other and, therefore, to treat each other in a more positive way. Of particular interest for children was the game “Writing Books of  Friendship”, an exercise “Secret Friend” and much more. The plans for the future is the continuation of the work with schools from September 2014.

We also began preparations for a new project on HIV / AIDS among schoolchildren of  Zaporizhzhya. From September 2014 till January 2015 we plan to have presentations for  2500 high school students (9-11 grades). In May and August, we will carry out preparatory work for the project, which includes the development of teaching materials, training programs for educators, making agreements with schools.

Session on HIV / AIDS consists of identifying the current state of knowledge on this topic, movie, as well as a game that will help children to consolidate their knowledge. In June we plan to have  pilot sessions for teachers and students of the detention centre. At the end of a presentation each school which get educational materials needed to continue to work with other high school students.

3. Students' practicum

In May ended the practice of social work students of the Faculty of Sociology and Administration and Economics and Law College. Students become part of a team of our Centre, bring invaluable assistance. For example, students  helped with daily walks of children from the "Kangaroo" at the playground, actively participated in presentations in schools, etc. By the end of practice, they were very happy to get practical skills, see "live work" and to better understand what it means to be a social worker.

On May 21 completed training sessions with college students. The students said that they became friends, and learned to communicate, work in teams. Many students have become more confident in themselves and their own abilities, open new possibilities and abilities.

Working with college students was productive and dynamic. Guys really successfully completed a course of training sessions and achieved their goals.

We look forward to work with students of Economics and Law College in the new academic year.

4. Seminars, conferences

On May 14, 2014 we took part in a roundtable on "Pathways of preparing          of social workers for future work", which took place on the basis                         of  Zaporizhzhya National University. 

During the session  we demonstrated as an  example  the selection     mechanism to attract students volunteers. Also we have shown mutual       benefit  of volunteering both for students and for public organizations.            The round table adopted recommendations on the development of                  the volunteer movement and the establishment of partnerships                between universities and NGO’s.

5. "We are just like you!" (work at the detention centre)

In May took place a traditional trip of volunteers from Zaporizhzhya National Technical University (major in  tourism) to the detention centre.

Volunteers organized a fascinating contest for children. The winners received  diplomas. The meeting ended with a football match.
