Training of Specialists of Social Sphere

"Florence Centre" conducted lectures and practical classes for students of advanced training courses of Zaporizhzhya Institute of postgraduate education. All students work in the system of public education as psychologists or social pedagogues.

The proposed topics were: " NGO in Ukraine. Florence Centre”, "How to work with autistic children", "Healthy Lifestyle among high school students", "Supporting groups". All topics have been of interest to specialists.

The "Kangaroo" Program

This month the program began to visit a new kid, girl N. (33 months)

Three families got consultations and psychological support.

In November we continued sessions in hippotherapy. Children continue with great enthusiasm to ride horses, interact with animals, feed him. Many children experience significant improvement: aligned posture, strengthen muscles of the back and legs.  In addition, notable improvements are observed in one timid and shy child – communication with a horse enhances self-confidence, the child becomes more relaxed and open to communication, besides, such interaction helps kids to overcome fears and anxiety.

This month we continue to play music instruments. A great joy for us is that children learn more how to use music instruments, fall into the rhythm, learn the lyrics. In addition, together with a music therapist, we began active preparations for a Christmas party – learn Christmas songs, dances for the holiday.

This month we continue to go swimming. We also have classes of speech therapist. For arts and craft work we continue to use the materials which help to develop  creative abilities. Children and parents enjoyed the crafts from clay: the men and the bunnies; little boxes as models of houses; snowflakes; from salt dough made the birds and then painted them.

Kids actively participate in sport activities, we use ropes, massage balls, other sport equipments.

Daily articulation exercises and facial massage helps children in speech development. The use of cards PECS gives children the opportunity to better learn the routine and to establish a causal connection.

We are always happy to host students volunteers who actively participate in the life of our centre. Thanks for the didactic material made by them for educational games with the kids!

We also grateful to our friends, the clowns "Smehonosy".

The Program "Healthy Lifestyle"

In November we conducted a series of trainings at schools on prevention of violence. The students were from fifth to ninth grades. The teens were excited to learn new facts about this phenomenon. It turned out that each of them faced a situation of violence, but as usual, concealed the fact or considered it a normal process of growing up. During sessions children had the opportunity to learn what to do if a person was a victim in a violent situation. Also teenagers got the information how to be aware when they themselves were the aggressors, and, most importantly, to understand what to do to change their behavior.

The Project "Territory Z" (part of the Program “Healthy Lifestyle)

This month we conducted classes on the project "Territory Z". Our main task this year was the building  of the moral foundation of a healthy way of life.

Work at schools has shown that children were not very open at the beginning, it is difficult for them to say something good about themselves in front of a group of classmates. Thus, it often turns out that those boys who loudly laughing and discussing the responses of others, just most afraid to tell anything about themselves. But in the process of training the lecturers noted that honest and open answers of some children, after all, stimulate the local bullies to share some thoughts about their behavior.

We also continued the work with three groups of teachers at schools.  According to the statements of the teachers after sessions they feel more relaxed and stress relief. "Participation in this group gives a possibility to discuss problems, to learn more about others. This is great!"

In addition to sessions with children and teachers in schools within the project our specialists held individual consultations with children and parents. We hope that such consultations will help to improve the quality of life of our clients.

The Project "I am beautiful!"

In November the project  "I am beautiful!"was finished. In accordance with the plan, the penultimate session was a parade of the participants in evening dresses. The hall, which was provided by the faculty of Social Pedagogy and Psychology of Zaporizhzhya National University was full of spectators. The majority of the audience was elderly people from all over the city, as well as students. Fashion show and presentation of the results, what happened with participants before and after the project had impressed the whole audience. People clapped, stood up and welcomed participants of the project. "Now we know where to go and what to do in retirement," - said one woman after the performance was ended.

The last session was devoted to summing up. People said that through this project they experienced a lot of positive emotions. “ I felt beautiful and elegant, get rid of fears and complexes, saw that life in retirement, I have increased my self-esteem”.

"We were in a fairy tale!", said many of them "Continue this project, it is very necessary!"

Training workshop

In November, we continued our fruitful collaboration with the wonderful NGO “School  of Volunteers No. 612”.

On 12 and 13 November was held a training "Management of volunteer groups" for current and future coordinators of volunteers. The meeting was held in the  "Florence Centre" and was attended by by ten people.

The participants discussed with interest the urgent problems and all together tried to find the answers. How to organize the work of volunteers? How to inspire them to effective assistance? How to encourage volunteers and find a way out of difficult situations? Where to take resources to avoid burn out in working with volunteers?  Thanks to the participants of the training was created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and their rich life experience brought to our work interesting content.
