1. "Kangaroo" (work with disable children)

The "Kangaroo" provides an early social rehabilitation of children with special needs from 0 to 6 years. Four  initial consultations took place for children and parents. Three of the families made a decision to attend the group in December 2012. Six kids attended sessions regularly. For each child, was set  the aims to be reached for next month.

Sessions include  five major functional components: self care, social development, fine (fine) and general motor skills, language (speech), thinking and perception.

Successfully solves the main problem of the program - the socialization of children with special needs. Sometimes we have children voluneers (Ivan and Andrew).Working with children is done in three ways: individual, in a subgroup (2-3 people) and in a group.

We see some changes and progress in our work. 

Matthew - the youngest (1.4 years),  make the first steps, learn to contact "eye to eye." Maxim F. - trying to crawl alternately moving the knees, not bouncing on his hand, learns to walk within the room with a chair. Successfully play "Lotto", "Domino". Productive activities, drawing and modeling. At home sings from the repertoire of music lessons. Karen has adapted to the day care routine, easily comes in contact with both the male and the female sex. Actively interact with the children and participate in group work, and occasionally plays independently with small objects. Katya has inriched her vocabulary: Active 10-15 words, says more and more new words are different in complexity, "Sun", "clothespin", "happy", etc. Performs one task on demand. Actively performs gymnastics: running, jumping, press. Learned to count from 1 to 10. Alina has adapted to the regime of the day, sleepis in the afternoon. Develops laces, buttons, zippers. Successfully performs articulation exercises. Vocabulary is expanded to 10 words, often uses "mama", "woman", "yes", "no", "come", "all", "go", accompanying gestures. Active in musical activities, loves to dance. Melany is a new member of the group, she goes through the process of adaptation. Performs tasks in the presence of the stimulus or the expected reward. All new treats with caution.

For all children in the form of a game held physical therapy: motor spatial orientation, sensory-motor development. For Alina and Maxim F. (cerebral palsy) conducted a set of special exercises to stretch spastic muscles and strengthening weak muscles. This month, two volunteers worked (Dima and Sergei), provided  social and educational support for children.

Nine individual psychological and educational counseling were conducted for parents and four consultations on physical therapy.

Once a week for an hour  the kids work with music therapist. In class the children learn new songs and movement.s At the end of the month we had a fall matinee - Holiday on the harvest of vegetables.

Took part in a scientific seminar "Autism "in the city social services .

2. "Healthy Generation" (work with teens at school on prevention of smoking, drinking, drug use, on communication, decision making, etc.).

In November, the Centre made six presentations on the  program "Healthy Generation" in three schools in the city.

Due to the increasing incidence of school violence, the largest number of requests received for the  prevention of violence. We see the urgent need to do this work for schoolchildren. Analysis of student responses showed that most of them are not aware that they were involved in the violence, many do not see the consequences of their actions. Therefore lectures help children understand complex issues and to get important answers.

Also relevant was the topic on smoking prevention. In the classroom children are very active, correctly answer questions and know the dangers of smoking. Children also noted that more and more people are smoking, and promise never to gain this bad habit.

3. "Training of trainers"

In November, specialists of the centre continued training sessions for six students from Social Work program from  Zaporizhzhya National University. Trainings were focused on the study of self, development of communication skills, group cohesion. The guys are very active, friendly, funny. The training was conducted successfully.

4. "We are just like you!" (work at the detention centre)

In November, students of Humanities and the Faculty of Law of Zaporizhzhya National Technical University took part in the organization of the badminton tournament. All members of the University were girls. The game was a lot of fun. We have the impression that the students of the school of rehabilitation played badminton for the first time there. The kids loved the game. At the end the winners received certificates, all the other guys - sweet prizes, which brought students. Students really liked this form of work. They are ready to come back. By the New Year holiday will be prepared   a performance by students.

5. Education of specialists from social services

In accordance with the annual plan of the work of the "Florence centre” was organized and conducted a seminar for the City social  services "Building a constructive relationship in the family." There were 9 people, specialists from programs for children with special needs. Most of them liked the organization of the seminar, the possibility to take hand-outs materials, the construction of "I-messages" and information about the roles in the family. For the employees of the Leninsky district of the city social services (program for  the elderly), was conducted a lecture on the integration of people with disabilities into society. Some employees were crying during the presentation and said, "Show this film to young people and children, they have to learn how to live with people with disabilities and help!"

6. Work with Foreign specialists on projects

In November, we visited the agricultural trade school in the village of Nicholay Polye. School began its work in September, receiving a license from the Ministry of Education. Funding comes from charitable donations of the Canadian citizens. Main area - training for work in the field of diary. First students are the  guys who do not have parents. The building where classes are held is the former Mennonite church. We also visited a farm where a Canadian citizen has a diary farm and sells dairy products.

7. Social actions

We have finished the design of the calendar "Making life brighter." The main characters of the calendar are elderly people who found a new meaning in life and have a very productive and happy retirement.

8. PR

Center "Florence" took part in the annual event at the Zaporizhzhye Chamber of Commerce "The fair of education." We have been widely advertised program "Healthy Generation" and "Training Workshop." Prepared handouts that were able to get the school teachers of Zaporizhzhya, as well as schoolchildren and their parents.

In November  the  "Florence centre" was awarded a diploma and a prize in the nomination "The Best Volunteer of the Year." The competition was held by regional state administration.

We also published two advertisings in the local newspapers on the recruitment of children into the "Kangaroo".

9. Preparation of methodical materials

In November a new lecture  was prepared for school  on "HIV / AIDS", as well as updated the lecture on FASD. Have been prepared and distributed to the schools information sheets on the program "Healthy Generation".

10. "Volunteers"

Volunteers of the "Florence" continue to actively prepare educational materials for the children of the "Kangaroo".
