1. The project "School"

In February on the request of three schools we did presentations on prevention of violence and conflict prevention. Lectures were held in an interactive way, high-school students actively participated in the discussion, expressed their ideas and views on the subject. High-school students are well aware of their rights, and at some points about their responsibilities. It should also be noted that they are very openly engage in conversation, especially about the situation in the classroom and school with violence and conflicts.

 An important point in the lecture was to review the various situations and possible alternatives to the behavior. 

2. The project "We are just like you!" (detention center)

In February, was organized a trip that has already become traditional to the school of social rehabilitation. This time there was a volleyball match. Eight volunteers from two different Universities played with teens. Throughout the game teens, despite their young age showed great skills to play volleyball and even beat older rivals, making it an event for kids even more joyful.

For school staff we made a workshop on the development of resources and vision of the aims and objectives of the school of the rehabilitation and jointly we had determined the prospects for its development. 

3. The program "Kangaroo"

With the new facility we started to have a group of children three times a week. The group size – 8-10 children. The length of staying – 3 hours. In a group we have children with cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. Children and parents are very positive about the group meetings and classes which they have. The first month the orientation is mainly on adaptation and habituation to the environment and to each other.  Children don’t want to go home when their parents come. Because we got the financial support for January at the beginning of February we used the money to buy a carpet and some methodical materials. In February we also were preparing for the integrative concert which took place on the first of March. For now we have 50 families. We add 2 new families in our waiting list this month.

4. Students’ practicum

In February we had 4 students (social pedagogues) from National University. The main purpose of the practice - practical experience of work in NGO’s that provide social services to the public.

Throughout the month students have the opportunity to work with children with special needs and their parents on the program, "Kangaroo", to participate in the preparation and conduct of the integrative concert, to meet with Canadian  Professors Otto and Florence Driedgers.  Students showed a high level of interest in activities, the ability to find creative solutions in different situations, as well as responsibility.

5. Development of teaching materials

In February we have prepared a manual for specialists who work in schools of social rehabilitation. The manual describes the experience of Kamyshevahskaya school of social rehabilitation, international experience of working with juvenile offenders, as well as guidelines for improvement of schools of social rehabilitation. Publishing of materials is planned in March 2011.

6. Social action

In February there was an active preparation for integrative concert. 25 volunteers participated in preparation of the concert. We have  prepared more than 10 contests for children (the concert will be attended by children and youth with special needs as well as kids from regular schools).
