1.                 "Healthy Generation"

 (work with teens at schools on prevention of smoking, drinking, drug use, on communication, decision making, etc.).

In December staff of the Center has worked on the program «Healthy generation». An active advertising campaign on the lecture and training sessions for children and adolescents has helped to build new partnerships with schools in the city of Zaporizhzhya. In December we  conducted held 12 sessions in total for 325 students: 3 classes on prevention of HIV/AIDS, 3 classes of team building, 2 classes on the prevention of smoking, 2 classes on the prevention of violence, 1 class on the prevention of the FASD and 1 session on sex education.

For example, a presentation on the prevention of HIV includes the identification of an initial level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS, view a training video and leaning of the information through the entertaining quiz.

As polls show  the discussion of the information was not new to them, but many of the nuances are unaware of them, and, consequently, for the guys it was very important to find out the details from a reliable source. So,  many adolescents did not know facts that HIV is transmitted through breastfeeding, as well as many of the guys were sure that HIV is transmitted through insects. Using different examples of the quiz a lecturer showed that the errors in the game can be easily corrected, but if such errors occur in real life, the consequences will be bad.

At the end of the sessions teenagers made conclusions about the relevance of such information and the need for its dissemination among friends and acquaintances.

Thus, we are actively developing our collaboration and  partnerships with schools.

2.                 "We are just like you!"

      (work at the detention centre).

Joyful event was organized on St. Nicholas day by university at the detention centre. This time, the students prepared not only interesting concert, but brought a real spirit of the New year. Interesting contests, fun dances, funny games have made us all smile and laugh, and disco dances involved  everybody. Gifts were given by Father Frost and a Snow-maiden. Boys and staff thanked for the event and offered  not to leave  school.

3. "Training of trainers".

In December we have finished a set of  training sessions for students, major in social pedagogy. During the feedback students shared that sessions were very helpful and achieved their goal. The students expressed their wish to continue to participate in trainings next semester.

4. Education of specialists from social services.

Lectures for social pedagogues from Zaporizhzhya oblast (province) were conducted by our specialists at the  Institute of in-service training The presentations covered the issues of support of a family, the family structure, the roles in a family. In addition there were discussions how to build a loving relationship in the family; how to integrate children with special needs into the system of school education; issues of suicide among adolescents; issues of migrants and others.

5. "Kangaroo"

    (work with disable children).

The program of «Kangaroo» carries out early social rehabilitation of children with special needs from 0 to 6 years. This month there were 2 consultations for parents. Seven families  attended  the  «Kangaroo» program. We could have more children but the weather conditions  were bad plus children often sick at this time of the year. By the end of the month each child was evaluated on the results of the progress.

Sessions are held on the 5 most important functional components: a self-service, social development, fine  and gross motorik, language (speech), thinking and perception.

Successfully solved the main task of the program - socialization of children with special needs. Work with children is carried out in three ways: individual, in subgroups (2-3 kids) and in a group.

Some changes and successes in our work.

Maxim has learned how to swim like "rabbits» on land, fully straightening the arm in the elbow joint. Learned to throw the ball at a far distance. Actively repeats sounds gymnastics, prepared and recited a poem about the Father Frost, sings Christmas songs.

Karen (a boy) began to organize his own game with the other children, allowed to do things using his hand by specialists, watching the result, learned to sit with other kids at the  table, and prefers to be in a team with other children, rather than alone.

Katya continues to expand her vocabulary: actively used 15-20 words. Count from 1 to 10 and writes the numbers from 1 to 9. Draws the sun with parts of the person's body:  circles as eyes, nose, mouth and rays. Repeats the dancing movements. Other kids also show the progress, each in different are, but all together are very good in developing the skills in communication and socialization.

6. Social actions.

In December we have finished the social project «Make the life brighter!» (a calendar with pictures of the retired people from our city). Ready-made calendars were donated to the main characters and clients of the centres of social adaptation of the retired people.

Also information about the project was published in the city newspaper «Zaporizhzhya pensioner». Starting from January 2013  the same newspaper will  publish information about  main characters of our calendar, every month about one person.

7. Preparation of methodical materials.

In December we have started to develop a presentation on the prevention of computer addiction.

8. «Volunteers».

Volunteers of the  «Florence Centre» continue to  prepare methodical materials for children of the  «Kangaroo program».

10. PR.

The staff of the Centre was invited to the festival  of volunteer in the Komunarsk social work agency. We were awarded with a certificate  for active volunteer work in the city.
